McKenzy Cresswell scored an impressive maiden F4 British Championship certified by FIA - powered by Ford EcoBoost win at Oulton Park this past weekend (July 31/August 1) after producing a stunning opening lap and dominant race pace throughout. Returning to single-seater action after the five-week summer break, the 15-year-old arrived at the picturesque Cheshire venue keen to continue his pursuit of both the Drivers’ and Rookie Cup championship crowns. Mixed weather conditions in qualifying, and a decision to remain on slicks, resulted in Cresswell finishing out of position in 15th, his first time qualifying outside the top three all year. Race two provided the backdrop for the Surrey-based racer's victory. Starting on the third row, Cresswell made a flawless launch off the line to pass three cars on the inside as the field headed into Old Hall. Setting off after pole-sitter Thomas Ikin, Cresswell’s move for the lead came two corners later on the opening tour as he made a sensational move stick at the Island Hairpin. From there, the teenager, who is proudly supported by both Quenched Drinks and Salt Recruitment, produced a commanding performance as he streaked clear of the competition to take the chequered flag by almost five seconds. Starting race three from 19th - which was broadcast live on ITV4 - Cresswell capped off his weekend with a 14th place finish. This came despite being forced off-track early in the race and finding himself three seconds adrift at the back in his JHR Developments machine. Leaving Oulton Park, Cresswell retains third in the F4 Championship standings whilst also remaining firmly in contention for the Rookie Cup. McKenzy Cresswell: “I’m over the moon to have scored my first British F4 win this weekend, we’ve been working really hard and it’s fair to say it has been a long time coming! After having a difficult qualifying session, I knew that the reverse grid race was going to be a really good opportunity to score a majority of my points. “Starting fifth, I got the best start I have ever had in the car and the gap opened up on the inside heading into the first corner. It was really tight and came down to a bit of risk versus reward; thankfully it paid off and we made it through. “Once out front it was just about being clinical, building the gap and then managing the tyres to the end. I’d have obviously loved to have had better results in the other two races but to come away with a win is still fantastic! “We can now head up to Knockhill in under two weeks’ time full of confidence and knowing that we are still in the fight for both titles.” The F4 British Championship certified by FIA - powered by Ford EcoBoost now heads north of the border to Scotland for Rounds 13, 14 & 15 of the 2021 season at Knockhill.
